Family of Winifred Alice Riley
1-George Shepherd was born on 20 Jun 1847 in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England, died on 12 Jan 1922 in Launceston at age 74, and was buried on 13 Jan 1922 in Wyena, Tasmania. He began working for the Great Northern Railway when he was 15 years old. On 15 Nov 1882 the family left Southampton, England for South Africa on board the Pretoria. On 22 Mar 1886 they departed Cape Town on the Coptic, arriving in Hobart on 11 Apr 1886.
George Shepherd immediately joined the Tasmanian railway service as an Inspector of Permanent Way. His first posting was at Fingal on the line then under construction. On 1 August 1889 he was appointed as construction inspector. During his time with the railway he moved from Hobart to Fingal, Launceston, Lilydale and Lebrina.
George married Louisa Ray on 22 Jun 1867 in Christ Church, Luton, Hertfordshire, England. Louisa was born on 10 Aug 1846 in Trowley Bottom, Flamstead, Hertfordshire, England. They had a daughter: Louisa.
2-Louisa Shepherd was born on 19 Nov 1869 in Luton, Bedfordshire, England, died on 17 Jan 1950 at her daughter-in-law's residence, Winnaleah, Tasmania at age 80, and was buried in Carr Villa E191.

RILEY-On January 17, 1950, at the residence of her daughter-in law (Mrs. H. G. Riley, Winnaleah), Louisa, loved wife of the late Henry Riley, and loved mother of Harry (deceased), and Winnie (Mrs. A. McHugh, Branxholm). In her 81st year.
Louisa married Henry Edward Riley in about 1894 in the Registry Office, Durban, South Africa. Henry was born on 2 Mar 1867 in Nort Shields, Northumberland, England, died on 22 Jun 1923 in Launceston at age 56, and was buried on 24 Jun 1923 in Launceston. They had two children: Winifred Alice and Henry George.
3-Winifred Alice Riley was born on 14 Sep 1899 in Johannesburg, Transvaal, died on 23 Jun 1954 in NESM Hospital, Scottsdale at age 54, and was buried on 26 Jun 1954 in Carr Villa Cemetery, Launceston, Tasmania. Winifred married Andrew John McHugh, son of John McHugh and Elizabeth May Young, on 11 Dec 1926 in Winnaleah, Tasmania. Andrew was born on 23 May 1887 in Deloraine, Tasmania, died on 13 Sep 1960 in the Launceston General Hospital at age 73, and was buried on 14 Sep 1960 in Carr Villa Cemetery, Launceston, Tasmania. They had two children: Elizabeth Louise (Beth) and Ruth Margaret.

Mrs. L. Riley THE funeral of Mrs. Louisa Riley, of Winnaleah, who died on Tuesday, took place at the Carr Villa Cemetery yesterday morning' and was attended by many relatives and friends. Rev. S. H. Wilson, of the Church of Christ, Margaret St., conducted the services at the funeral chapel and at the graveside. Chief mourners were Mrs. A. McHugh, Branxholm (daughter), Mrs. G. Brown, Lilydale (sister), Messrs. Seth Shepherd, Launces ton, and Harry Shepherd,. West bury (brothers), Mrs. H. ;Riley, Winnaleah (daughter-in-law), Mr. A. J. McHugh, Branxholm (son-in-law), Mr. Gilbert Riley, Winnaleah (grandson), Miss Jean Riley and Mrs. King, Winnaleah (granddaughters), Messrs. Geoff, George and Roy Shepherd, Oscar Jones and Walter and Reg Brown, (nephews). Funeral arrangements were by C. T. Finney and Sons, Launceston.
