1-Convict ↑John Alexander Herbert was born on 26 Apr 1767 in Holborn, London, England and died on 19 Nov 1846 in Hope Inn, Westbury, Tasmania at age 79. He was born at a private dwelling in a narrow street called Long Lane which is situated in the District of Smithfield, Parish of St. Andrews, Town of Holborn, County of London, England. He was christened in St. Andrews Church. He was tried and convicted at the Old Bailey Criminal Court for stealing a silk handkerchief value one shilling on 21 Apr 1784. He was sentenced to seven years transportation and sent to Australia on the Scarborough in the First Fleet in 1788. In 1790 he was sent to Norfolk Island on the Sirius. He was allotted ground and by 1794 he was selling grain to the stores and was also appointed as a constable. He had several children to convict ↑Hannah Bolton, alias Moore. On 18 Feb 1813 with two children, James and Elizabeth he boarded the Minstrel at Norfolk Island, arriving at Port Dalrymple on 4 March 1813. His property at Norfolk Plains was known as Rocky Hill.
