Cornelius Michael Colgan and Bridget Doyle

Cornelius Michael Colgan↑ was born about 1822 in Ireland, died on 12 Jul 1907 in the New Town Charitable Institution, Hobart, Tasmania aged about 85, and was buried in Cornelian Bay. Cornelius was also known as Cornelius Colligan. In 1847 he was sentenced for stealing a donkey and he was transported for seven years aboard the Blenheim II, arriving in Hobart Town on 2 Feb 1849.

Cornelius married free settler Bridget Doyle, daughter of Michael Doyle and Mary, on 29 May 1862 in the Port Sorell District, Tasmania. Bridget was born about 1846 in Ireland and died on 3 Sep 1924 in Warrnambool, Victoria aged about 78. They had seven children:

2-Michael Colgan was born on 23 Sep 1862 in the Port Sorell District, Tasmania. Michael married Laura Smith on 28 Nov 1917 in St Johns Church of England, Devonport, Tasmania.

2-Mary Maria Matilda Colgan was born on 21 Jan 1864 in the Port Sorell District, Tasmania and died on 2 Sep 1954 in 164 Abbotsford Road, North Melbourne, Victoria at age 90. Mary married William Mallett on 24 Sep 1883 in Ulverstone, Tasmania.

Mary next had a relationship with Edward James McGuire.  They had seven children: Lilly May, Arthur Harold, Edgar George, Beatrice Blanche, Isabella, Percy Frederick and Florence Maud.

3-Lilly May McGuire was born on 20 Feb 1887 in Ringarooma, Tasmania. Lilly married William Anderson McBean Cunningham, son of John Cunningham and Martha Ewen. William was born on 18 Jun 1874 in Ringarooma, Tasmania.

3-Arthur Harold McGuire was born on 27 Aug 1888 in Ringarooma, Tasmania and died on 16 Jul 1920 at age 31.

3-Edgar George McGuire was born on 27 Aug 1888 in Ringarooma, Tasmania, died on 15 Aug 1956 in Repatriation Hospital Hobart at age 67, and was buried on 17 Aug 1956 in Cornelian Bay Cemetery, Hobart, Tasmania. He served in the First World War. Edgar married Queenie Doris Taylor, daughter of Charles Henry Taylor and Amy Maria Cruse, on 28 Feb 1922 in Holy Trinity Church of England, Launceston. Queenie was born on 1 Feb 1904 in Pateena, Tasmania, was christened on 14 Apr 1904 in Christ Church Anglican, Illawarra Road, Longford, died on 6 Oct 1983 in Heathcote Home, Hobart at age 79, and was buried in Cornelian Bay Cemetery, Hobart, Tasmania. They had one son: Arthur Charles.

4-Arthur Charles McGuire was born in 1923 and died on 23 Aug 2008 at age 85. Arthur married Joy Edith Blyth on 31 Jul 1943 in Holy Trinity Church of England, Launceston. Joy died in 1997. They had four children: Robert Arthur, David, Helen and Patricia.

3-Beatrice Blanche McGuire was born on 27 Dec 1890 in Ringarooma, Tasmania. Beatrice married John William Kavanagh, son of Patrick Kavanagh and Katherine Doyle, on 13 Apr 1910 in St Clements Church, Derby. Tasmania. John was born on 13 Sep 1877 in Gordon, Tasmania. They had one daughter: Beatrice Catherine.

3-Isabella McGuire was born on 30 Jan 1893 in Ringarooma, Tasmania. Isabella married David Edward Baker on 20 Jan 1915 in Branxholm, Tasmania.

3-Percy Frederick McGuire was born on 6 Nov 1894 in Ringarooma, Tasmania and died in 1976 in Moorina, Tasmania at age 82. Although severely wounded in France he served in both the First and Second World Wars.

3-Florence Maud McGuire was born on 20 Dec 1896 in Ringarooma, Tasmania and died on 21 Dec 1982 at age 86. Florence married Percy Douglas Cocker, son of Joseph Cocker and Euphemia Lawson. Percy was born on 2 Jan 1889 in Fingal, Tasmania, died on 14 Nov 1977 at age 88, and was buried in Monumental Cemetery C16/214. Mary next married Patrick Dunn on 6 Dec 1898 in Ringarooma, Tasmania. Patrick was born in 1864 in Merebrow, Victoria and died on 6 Dec 1898 in Tasmania at age 34. They had two children: Walter Ernest and Grace Elvera.

2-Thomas Colgan was born on 24 Jun 1865 in the Port Sorell District, Tasmania and died on 26 Jan 1917 in Waratah, Tasmania at age 51.
