1-Convict Thomas Webb was born in 1790 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England and died on 7 Jan 1870 in Westbury, Tasmania at age 80. Thomas had been tried in Portsmouth in England in April 1818 and sentenced to 7 years transportation. He arrived in Sydney on the Globe 8 on Jan 1819.  He was shipped to Port Dalrymple, Van Diemen’s Land on the Elizabeth Henrietta departing on 1/2/1819 and arriving 13 Feb 1819. When first tried he was a labourer, 5' 41/2 tall, brown hair and grey eyes. Native place was Portsmouth, age 25 years

He was tried again at Launceston Supreme Court on 5 April 1841 and sentenced to another 7 years.  The Launceston Advertiser of 8 April 1841 reported on the trial of Thomas Webb at Launceston, Tasmania.

'Thomas Webb was indicted for receiving a bucket of the value of four shillings, the property of J. Sinclair Esq., knowing the same to have been stolen. William Harvey, district constable deposed to his searching the prisoners house, and finding a bucket, Webb came home at the time I was there, I told him to tell me to whom the bucket belonged, he said it was his. Edmund Warland, a servant of Mr. Sinclair's deposed to his missing a bucket about the 7th March from a hut, prisoner lives about three miles from Mr. Sinclair. John Brompton was in Webb's service, I saw this bucket fresh painted at his place about a month since, I have seen one of Mr. Sinclairs assigned servants come backwards and forwards occasionally. The jury found the prisoner guilty, and his Honor proceeded to read from the police character a string of offences, comprising crimes of every description; the prisoners looks of astonishment were remarked by the whole Court, and it was discovered just before the learned Judge was about to pass sentence, that the sheriff had handed in the wrong character. His Honor said, another minute, and the prisoner would have been sent for fourteen years to Port Arthur. Upon looking into his true character it was found to be much more favourable, and His Honor remanded the prisoner to consider upon his sentence.
